THE PROJECT IS FINANCED

by Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania.

Total value of the project –

53 255.64 Eur

The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacity of Lithuanian environmental NGOs to effectively participate in the processes of implementation and application of carbon offsetting mechanisms in Lithuania, thus creating schemes that ensure financial sustainability of NGOs' activities as well as the involvement of the business community in the implementation of nature based solutions, not only by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, but also by stimulating absorption of GHGs, increasing adaptation to climate change, and protecting biodiversity.

Project actions:

  • Active work on the development of the Standard for Greenhouse Gas Emission Offset, discussion with stakeholder groups, review of comments, refinement of the documents, compatibility with national legislation, and comments on documents prepared by other institutions;

  • Preparation and coordination of pre-project proposals for mires restoration and practical implementation of mires restoration actions;

  • Strengthening of organisation's capacity: capacity building (exchange visits, workshops, training), preparation and implementation of long-term strategies for communication and fundraising, etc.;

  • Dissemination of information on climate change mitigation, GHG emission avoidance, and the voluntary carbon offsetting mechanism.

In the long term, the project will open up opportunities for Lithuanian NGOs to contribute to the development of a Lithuanian voluntary carbon offsetting mechanism for mutual benefit, in a transparent and efficient process, and the competencies strengthened through the project will enable organisations to be more flexible in seeking both individual and corporate sponsors, thus ensuring the continued financial and operational sustainability of NGOs.
