
ABOUT US
Foundation for Peatlands Restoration and Conservation is a non-profit nature protection organization that protects, restores and takes care of sustainable use and education of peatlands and other ecosystems.
The founders and members of the organization are peatland scientists and restoration specialists with many years of experience in various nature management projects in the field of biodiversity conservation, habitat restoration, climate change, agricultural policy, and innovative solutions.
The organization is assisted by an advisory council consisting of Lithuanian and EU experts in the field of peatland restoration and conservation.

OUR INSPIRATION

Prof. Dr. ROMAS PAKALNIS
A researcher who has dedicated more than 40 years to research in the Institute of Botany, expert in landscape ecology, wetland ecological restoration, forester, a public figure. For the past 15 years, the professor has focused on the ecological restoration of wetlands.
2005 he initiated research on the vegetation and ecological conditions of the Aukštumala upland bog and restoration activities of the hydrological regime. Since 2010 worked in the system of the State Service for Protected Areas, actively participated in the activities of the wetlands restoration projects implemented by the Lithuanian Fund for Nature.

NERIJUS ZABLECKIS
DIRECTOR, ECOLOGIST,
NATURE MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST
Nerijus has many years of experience as a head of organization, leading national and international projects in the fields of biodiversity and habitat restoration. Since 2012, he has focused on the protection of peatlands, climate change effects of the land use and forestry sectors.

Dr JŪRATĖ SENDŽIKAITĖ
BOTANIC, EXPERT IN MIRES ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION AND NATURE CONSERVATION
PhD studies and research of mires and meadows at the Institute of Botany, as well as in non-governmental nature protection organizations. Highly experienced in ecological restoration, paludiculture in Lithuania, protection of biodiversity and public education.
Member of the International Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) and the International Peatland Society (IPS).

Dr LEONAS JARAŠIUS
ENVIRONMENTAL EXPERT
ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION SPECIALIST
From the very beginning of his studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Vilnius University, he was actively involved in the fields of nature protection and restoration. Continuing his studies at the Nature Research Center, Leonas delved into the issues of wetland restoration and in 2015 wrote the doctoral dissertation on ecological restoration of wetlands. Areas of activity: monitoring of hydrological changes in wetlands and changes in plant groups, ecological restoration of peatlands, promotion of paludiculture.
